 Keno is one of the oldest gambling games to found within a casino. It is very similar to the game of lotto and according to reports, the game originated in China over 2000 years ago where a man by the name of Cheung Leung of the Han dynasty who invented it. Keno arrived in America via Chinese immigrants who came to work on the railroads and has become increasingly popular over the years.
The game of Keno usually has a designated area within the casino. However, depending on Casino there may be “Keno runners”, the runners will collect players’ tickets and deliver payouts should they win, and this is of course if the players are busy playing other games within the casino.
The object of the game is get as many selected numbers from the draw as possible. There is no real strategy to the game of Keno; it is generally regarded as a fun and popular game to play. To get started, players must select a minimum of four numbers up to a maximum of ten numbers. The numbers range from 1 up to 80 and each chosen number is referred to as a “Spot”. Therefore, if the player chooses ten random numbers between 1 and 80, they are known to be playing a 10 spot game. When the numbers have been selected, the player must mark the relevant numbers on a ticket; this is usually performed with a specific Keno crayon or marker. Players can purchase tickets throughout the casino or from dedicated tables within the casino. When a player has marked their numbers on the tickets, they must produce the ticket to an assistant along with the relevant bet to be placed. The minimum amount of bet that can be placed is usually very minimal. They will then issue a duplicate ticket with how much has been placed on the chosen numbers to be drawn.
To draw the numbers, 80 balls are placed into a barrel and spun round; out of the 80 balls placed into the barrel only 20 will be drawn. It is then dependent on how many of the players selected numbers are drawn as to how much they have won. Winning is dependant on the type of ticket that is chosen to be in play and how many “spots” are drawn. Casinos vary in their payout scales and there can be differences to how spots have to be drawn before the house will payout.
There are various bets that can be performed in the game and the most common is the straight ticket. This is where a bet is on a single way, however, players usually have more interest in betting combinations as they provide greater odds. A King Ticket is where a number circled by itself is always known as the King, and is used in combinations noted by the player. A combination ticket is where the player will mark out various numbers and play them in certain combinations.
